Helping BaptistCare invest in solar with confidence

Independent advice and competitive procurement helped BaptistCare select quality solar systems for four NSW aged care sites, with an estimated payback of 2.7 years.

The Opportunity

BaptistCare wanted to reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions through on-site solar generation. Having received unsolicited proposals from installers and its energy retailer, they needed independent advice to assess the options and identify the best approach.

The challenge was to purchase an appropriately sized solar system for each site, compare the available  purchasing models and secure reliable equipment and installation at a competitive price.

The Sourced Solution

Sourced Energy worked with BaptistCare’s facility managers, using the Beam platform to develop a site-specific business case for each of the four locations.

We prepared proposed panel layouts and incorporated electricity consumption and cost data to assess system sizes, forecast savings and compare two purchasing options: upfront ownership and a solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

This allowed BaptistCare to understand the financial implications of each option and refine system sizes to suit site requirements and budgets. Management selected upfront ownership, supported by an estimated payback of 2.7 years and forecast reductions in carbon emissions.

The agreed requirements were then tendered through the platform to prequalified installers. Fourteen installers responded, with proposals assessed against equipment quality, warranties, project management and price.

The evaluation gave BaptistCare a clear basis for selecting the best overall value. They chose a proposal offering stronger equipment and project management credentials than the lowest-priced bid.

Solar systems have since been installed at all four sites, reducing reliance on grid electricity and supporting BaptistCare’s cost and emissions reduction objectives.
