Creating a Spark gave communities a practical starting point for energy sharing

Community Energy

The Opportunity

Campbelltown City Council, Landcom and Sourced Energy applied for Research and Innovation funding from NSW Government to investigate the status of energy sharing for councils and draft a useful guide for taking initial steps towards energy sharing for their communities.

The Solution

Sourced Energy was the lead author for the Creating A Spark guide and investigated the various energy sharing models and implemented sharing projects in Australian communities and their active distributed energy resources. Checklists and step by step guides were outlined for Communities and Councils, local businesses, property developers and households For each community segment emphasis was placed on how they may participate in energy sharing and what they need to do to take the first steps. A thorough review of the relevant energy regulations impacting the sharing of Energy was also explored and presented in the guide.

The Outcome

Landcom, Campbelltown City Council and Sourced Energy not only were successful in achieving grant funding, the Creating A Spark guide was released and council interest in the guide has been strong.  Landcom host the online version of the guide on their website and numerous downloads have occurred thus far. The launch of the guide was attended  by over 50 representatives from Councils across NSW, many of whom have used the guide as a basis for their first practical steps towards fostering energy sharing within their communities.
